Museum summer youth volunteers should apply again
The call for youth volunteers issued by the San Bernardino County Museum earlier this month referred applicants to a web form that malfunctioned. As a result, the deadline for submitting applications has been extended until Thursday, May 30. The museum’s education division is seeking youth volunteers, ages 14 through 17, to facilitate family activities during the museum’s annual Avoid Summer Brain Drain program, which begins June 15 and runs through July.
“I’m especially concerned about the scores of people who have already applied using the interactive form and didn’t see the error message,” said Jolene Redvale, curator of education. “We did not receive these applications. I urge everyone who has already applied for these youth volunteer positions to revisit the website, download the form, fill it out, and send it by fax or regular postal mail. Alternatively, prospective volunteers can e-mail the information on the form directly to me.”
Program volunteers must plan to attend a mandatory training workshop on June 11, 9:00 am to 1:00 p.m. and are required to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours during the program.
“We rely on our volunteers to make all of our public programs viable,” said Redvale. “They are essential to the museum visitor experience. Summer programs draw thousands of visitors.”
Youth may download a volunteer application on the museum website, www.sbcountymuseum.org. Applications are due by May 30. When received, staff will send applicants a secondary application with further details about the program.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 am to 5pm. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. If assistive listening devices or other auxiliary aids are needed in order to participate in museum exhibits or programs, requests should be made through Museum Visitor Services at least three business days prior to your visit. Visitor Services’ telephone number is 909-307-2669 ext. 229 or (TDD) 909-792-1462.
