Activities Added to Family Fun Day at the County Museum
Sunday, March 21 is a day filled with family activities at the
San Bernardino County. This Third Sunday features free museum
admission, updates on Mars exploration, and StarLab Planetarium
shows. The museum's education division has also added special
activities for young children and their families in the museum's
Between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. the museum gardens are the focus of
"Metamorphosis Madness." Families will enjoy a variety
of activities featuring garden plants and animals. Race a snail
in the "garden snail tractor pull." Find out what parts
of plants you can eat. Discover the difference between a frog
and a toad. Built a plant collage, explore earthworm behaviors,
meet a walking stick, and find out all about hungry caterpillars!
A materials fee of $1 is requested for some activities.
Other activities during the day include touring the solar system
in the StarLab Planetarium. Programs begin at 10:30 a.m., 11:30
a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.. A $1 fee per person is requested for
each StarLab program.
At 1:00 p.m., NASA/JPL Ambassador James Butts will discuss the
current Mars Rover missions and the recent Stardust Mission to
collect dust from the tail of Comet Wild 2. NASA/JPL videos and
slides will illustrate the free presentation.
Curator of Education Jolene Redvale will lead a tour of the museum
ethnobotany garden at 2:30 p.m. Visitors will see plants used
by local Indians and learn how to use them in backyard landscaping.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street
exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Parking is free, and the
facility is handicapped-accessible. The museum's Garden Café
will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch, snacks, and beverages.
