Metamorphosis Madness at the County Museum
Amphibians do it, but reptiles don’t. Some rocks do it, and so do some insects, but people never seem to. What is it? It’s metamorphosis, and it’s the subject of a San Bernardino County Museum Family Fun Day on Saturday, August 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Caterpillars change into butterflies. Limestone metamorphoses into marble. Families will learn about metamorphosis – change – in nature by observation and activities.
“It isn’t metamorphosis when babies grow up,” said Nancy Kirkwood, museum educator. “Metamorphosis is more of a transformation from one thing to another, like when tadpoles become frogs. Families will get to run a couple of cool tests, play a game, and make an example of metamorphosis to take home.”
Family Fun Days are designed for parents and grandparents with children aged 3 to 12, but all museum visitors are welcome to participate. Activities are led by the museum education division and volunteers from the Museum Youth Club. There is a $1 materials fee.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands.
