Free Admission at County Museum

The San Bernardino County Museum invites the public to visit the museum in Redlands during regular museum hours with no admission fee on Sunday, November 7.

While at the museum, visitors can see “Signs in the Designs,” blue and white embroideries from China, along with displays of specimens and artifacts on three floors of the museum that present local history, anthropology, geology, paleontology, and biological sciences in regional context. An exhibit exploring the history of hydroelectric power in Southern California is in the museum’s Hall of History, which also includes a Wells Fargo stagecoach and a covered wagon that crossed the deserts from Utah to San Bernardino nearly 150 years ago. Crystals and mineral specimens are shown in the cases along the exhibit ramps, which lead up to the fifth largest collection of bird eggs in the world.

Visitors can also stop by the pond installed outside the Exploration Station for a glimpse into a riparian habitat. The nearby ethnobotany garden contains plants used past and present by local Indian groups: yucca, juncus, sage, bay, elderberry, agave, and many others.

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All visitors will be admitted free on Sunday, November 7. Parking is free, and the facility is handicapped-accessible.
