Museum to Welcome New Volunteers

The San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands will begin training sessions on October 21 and 22 for new volunteers in the education division. Prospective volunteers are invited to attend the half-day session from 9:00 a.m. to noon on either date. They will receive information on volunteering at the museum and arrange individualized schedules for specific training with museum staff and experienced volunteers. There is no charge for participating in volunteer training.

"This time of year is when we bring on new volunteers to help serve visiting school groups on weekday mornings," explained Carla Rosenkild, museum educator. "Education volunteers greet visiting groups, help teachers and chaperones navigate the exhibit galleries, and provide interpretation of exhibits and collections. Some even work in the Exploration Station, our live animal gallery."

Volunteer schedules can be arranged with flexibility to conform to busy lifestyles, but commitment to honoring schedules is requested to assure that visiting groups can maximize their learning experience. No previous experience or special knowledge is required. All ages from 18 and above are welcomed.

"Volunteers are a hugely important part of the museum experience," said Rosenkild. "Their efforts support the museum mission and are greatly appreciated by both museum staff and museum visitors. Volunteering at the museum is also a wonderful opportunity for personal growth and social opportunities."

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Parking is free, and the facility is handicapped-accessible.
