Hospital Volunteer Puts Patients at Ease |
Audrey Bailey likes to meet new people and help them feel at ease. That’s why she is a perfect fit for her job as a volunteer at the Kaiser Medical Center in Fontana.
“The stories you hear from people remind you of how much we are connected,” Bailey said. “It’s in my blood. I’m always anticipating ‘Who am I going to meet today?’“

Christian Camp Offers Mountain Retreats |
Thousand Pines Christian Camp and Conference Center sprouted from generosity of Lake Gregory’s namesake and creator more than 70 years ago and continues to grow and attract thousands of visitors to the San Bernardino Mountain community of Crestline every year.
It all started in 1939 when the Southern California Baptist Convention—an assembly of area Baptist churches—accepted Arthur Gregory Sr.’s donation of 10 acres that had been used to house crews constructing the lake and its earthen dam.

Imported Wood May Contain Invasive Pest |
A tiny pest that has devastated tens of thousands of oak trees in the Cleveland National Forest in San Diego County is inching its way closer to San Bernardino County by piggybacking on imported firewood.
Officials recently confirmed the discovery of the goldspotted oak borer—a beetle about the half the size of a penny—in Riverside County, and there is real concern that the invasive pest could make its way farther north.

Cherry Avenue Widening Moves Forward |
After a long delay, the Cherry Avenue widening project in Fontana is back on track.
Crews began staging their equipment on Cherry Avenue between Whittram and Foothill boulevards in December, and if all goes as planned, the construction—which will add a third lane—will be completed this Spring.

Ordinance Ends Unlimited Contributions |
Candidates for San Bernardino County elected offices can no longer collect unlimited contributions thanks to a campaign finance reform ordinance that went into effect on January 1, 2013.
Under the ordinance, candidates for County offices cannot accept more than $3,900 from a single source, including corporations, special interest groups, and individuals, per election cycle.
