Shake Roof Replacement by July 2014
Mountain and foothill homeowners who have wood shake roofs will be required to have new roofs in about two years under an ordinance adopted by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors in 2008.

The ordinance requires all roof coverings within Fire Safety Overlays—a.k.a. high-risk fire areas—must be either noncombustible or made of fire retardant material by July 2014.

Upland Resident Gives Back at ARMC
When Upland resident Paul Palsa injured his leg in 2008, he went to the emergency room of an area hospital for treatment.

Internal complications surfaced several hours after Paul arrived, leading to a blood infection and severe kidney failure.

Calls Drive Code Enforcement Workload
San Bernardino County Code Enforcement—a division of the Department of Land Use Services—is charged with enforcing ordinances and codes established by the Board of Supervisors in order to protect public health and safety and to preserve property values.

County Code Enforcement only has jurisdiction in unincorporated areas, including nearly all of the mountaintop and vast swaths of desert. Incorporated cities operate their own code enforcement offices to enforce their own local ordinances and codes.
