WRIB Services - Booklet Master

A Booklet Master is a printer ready original of your test booklet, including examinee instructions, scoring formula, and time limits. Allow five (5) working days in our office for preparation of a Booklet Master, except for special circumstances described below.

To obtain a Booklet Master, the Booklet Master Request Form needs to be completed and must be accompanied by Booklet Master Request Worksheets. As with the Review Draft, the form is basically self-explanatory, having only a few elements which require further discussion.

Booklet Instructions
Indicate whether the instructions to the examinees should include wording for multiple choice questions, true/false questions or both.

Time Limits
You may use a single time limit for an entire test or separate time limits for each test section. The single time limit is most commonly used, while separate time limits are reserved for speeded tests. With a single time limit, it is preferable to give examinees sufficient time to attempt every item on the test. A general practice is to allow one minute to complete each multiple choice item and thirty seconds for each true/false item. This formula should be modified for computational and highly complex items or in instances where the reading level of the applicant population is a factor.

Scoring Formula
Scoring options are available that can be based upon the number of items correctly answered, a correction for the number of items incorrectly answered, or a combination of the two kinds of instructions. Most tests should utilize the scoring formula based on the number of correct responses. The option of correction for incorrect responses is provided to accommodate separately timed sections of tests where speed is a factor.

Booklet Content
WRIB can accommodate up to fifteen (15) sections for a Booklet Master. However, this number of test sections is not recommended as a general rule. There is no limit on the number of WRIB subject categories that may be used to construct the test. Related WRIB categories should be effectively combined to create homogeneous, appropriate length (25-30 item minimum) test sections.

You should provide section titles that describe section contents, rather than limiting yourself to WRIB category titles. This is especially important when combining WRIB categories in a section. For example, a section containing items from English Usage, Paragraphing, and Spelling might be titled "Written Communication Skills".

Examinee Evaluation Form
A master of the Examinee Evaluation form is provided at the user's request and is customized with the job title for the specific examination . The form allows applicants to make comments related to the test which may prove highly useful in test review. First, the evaluation may point out items that are flawed and should be omitted before scoring takes place. Second, items requiring correction may be identified. Finally, observations by applicants regarding the job relatedness of the test may provide input for future test development for the job classification.

Booklet Master in Review Draft Format
The Booklet Master Request Worksheet needs to accompany the booklet master request form. This form enables the WRIB member to list the items for their test taken from the review draft, by test section, in the order desired. The “Section #” should correspond to the order of sections listed on the Booklet Master. The section number need only be shown next to the first item of each section. The "Question #" should refer to the order in which the items should appear. The “Sequence #" is the item's unique sequence number taken from the review draft. The “WRIB ID #” need only be completed for cluster items.
