| Twin Peaks
Located in what has been described as the "most highly urbanized" forest in the world the Twin Peaks Station covers over 340 square miles of territory, the majority of it within the San Bernardino National Forest. The patrol area stretches from Lake Silverwood to Lake View point and includes towns such as Crestline, Lake Arrowhead and Running Springs and numerous smaller communities and neighborhoods. As well as being home to nearly 35,000 regular residents, the popular resort and recreation destination can sometimes have a daily population that swells to over 85,000 persons on weekends and holidays.
Recently the County Board of Supervisors budgeted additional money for increased personnel. Currently, the Twin Peaks station has 20 sworn deputies, 3 detectives and 3 sergeants, one lieutenant and a captain. In addition, the station has 7 general employees who are tasked with clerical and other such duties.
The emphasis of the Twin Peaks Station is public safety and crime reduction. To that end, deputies adhere to the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) model of community policing. Their mission is not to just react to crime and public concerns, but to go out and pro-actively seek out issues and find solutions, in partnership with the community and allied agencies. Their goal is to reduce and, if possible, eliminate criminal activity and public safety issues before they become a problem.
In addition to normal patrol functions, the Twin Peaks Station has an ongoing partnership with the Rim of the World School District , which has allowed the establishment of a "satellite office" at Rim High School. From this office, deputies can work closely with school officials to deal with school related issues not only at the high school, but also at the District's other school campuses. Working in concert with the schools, Juvenile Probation and Rim Family services, deputies have been able to provide services to student families throughout the district. They have also provided guidance and training in regards to issues of school violence and responses to unusual incidents on campuses.
The Twin Peaks Station also has a dedicated group of citizen volunteers who provide an immeasurable amount of services to the community. These volunteers, who include the Citizens on Patrol, Search and Rescue, Sheriff's Reserves and Law Enforcement Explorers, donate tens of thousands of volunteer hours to the residents of the mountain communities. These organizations, although affiliated with the Sheriff's Department are largely self sustaining, raising funds for equipment and programs through such events as the annual Twin Peaks Sheriff's Station Volunteer Golf Tournament held at the prestigious Lake Arrowhead Country Club.
Ever moving forward, the Twin Peaks Station plans to implement a marine enforcement team on both Lake Silverwood and Lake Arrowhead; a Major Enforcement team, to focus on problem crime areas; and an off-road vehicle unit to help patrol the back country.
It is the mission of the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Station to provide the highest level of service to residents and visitors alike and to make the mountain communities a safe and healthy environment.
