On Election Day, student
pollworkers act as regular pollworkers. State law allows students, in good academic
standing and a citizen of the United States to serve as pollworkers if they are
at least 16 years of age. All students that are placed attend a two and a half hour
training session prior to Election Day. After attending training students will receive
an appointment letter indicating the name and address of where they are assigned
to work and with whom he or she will be working with. Students will serve with other
members of the election board.
What are the benefits?
Students are given the opportunity for hands on experience,
in learning how elections are conducted.
They receive training on how to provide service to voters at
the polls.
It will inspire other students to register and to vote when
they reach 18 years of age.
Students gain experience in dealing with the public which can
help with work experience.
They’ll show their community the support of the younger
generation and at the same time meet new people.
Gain a lifelong appreciation for the democratic process.
MONEY… they are paid $100.00 for the day and an additional
$15.00 for attending training.
And last but not least… they get excused from school
for the day.
An additional $10.00 is paid if the student is bilingual (English
