1. If you are a
U.S. Citizen, will be 18-years old on or before the
next election, and are not in prison or on parole
for a felony conviction, you are eligible to register
to vote and may fill out a voter registration card,
also known as an affidavit. You only need to re-register
if you move, change your name,or political party.
|
|
2.
Once you have registered to vote, the
Registrar of Voters office will mail you a sample
ballot pamphlet before each election. The sample ballot
contains information on all of the races you will
be voting on. Review it and take it with you to your
polling place. There is a handy voting guide in it
to mark your choices before going to the polls. |
3.
The sample ballot contains a page with voting instructions.
|
4.
When you arrive at your polling place, you will need
to give your name and address to the poll worker.
They will have you sign a roster, give you your ballot
card, and direct you to a voting booth. San Bernardino
County uses Pollstar voting booths. |
5.
Make sure that the ballot type number on the bottom
of your sample ballot matches the ballot type (B.T.)
on the bottom of your official ballot card. If not,
return to poll worker. If yes, you are ready to vote.
Insert the ballot card all the way into the voting
unit. |
6.
Be sure the two holes in the top stub of your ballot
card fit down over the two red pins at the top of
the voting unit. |
7.
There are numbers in your Sample Ballot next to each
selection that match numbers on the plastic tabs of
the voting unit. |
8.
After determining your selection in the Sample Ballot
pamphlet, use the punch device attached to the voting
unit to punch the matching number in the voting unit. |
9.
Hold the punch device straight up and punch down through
the ballot card for the candidates or measure responses
of your choice. Do not use pen or pencil. If you wish
to cast a write-in vote, use the space provided on
the ballot stub. |
10.
Go through all pages of your sample ballot punching
your choices. Under the last item to choose from,
it will say"You have just completed voting".
Note, there may be more numbers on the voting unit
than items to vote. |
11.
When you have finished voting, carefully
remove your official ballot card by lifting the card
off of the red pins and gently pulling it up and out
of the voting unit. |
12.
Turn your ballot card over and inspect it to be sure
all holes are cleanly and completely punched out.
|
13.
Carefully remove any loose chads. |
14.
Note: If you make a mistake, return your ballot card
to the poll worker and obtain another one. You may
only use a maximum of three ballots, so be careful!
All spoiled ballots must be returned to the poll worker. |
15.
To ensure secrecy, fold the stub over the ballot
card and return it to the poll worker. The poll worker
will tear off your receipt stub and give it to you
with your "I voted" sticker. |
16.
Your poll worker will deposit your ballot into
the locked, official ballot box. This should be done
in your presence. Remember: One
vote does make a difference.
