Bureau of Investigation

The Bureau of Investigation employs professional investigators to investigate Public Defender cases. The Bureau ensures that a neutral, objective, thorough, aggressive, and honorable PD Investigator digs deep into the facts and circumstances of each assigned case. Our expert investigators have an average of 21 years of investigative experience. Over 83% of our investigators are prior sworn law enforcement officers. The Bureau also employs Investigator Trainees, Investigative Techs and Interviewers to assist the PD Investigators to completely investigate each case.

The Bureau conducts a 20 week initial investigative training program (ITP-1) which includes class and field work. Intermediate training program ITP-2 will be launched in Fiscal Year 2007-2008, and more advanced training programs are planned over the next two years.

The Bureau’s practices meet or surpass the highest law enforcement industry standards for investigation, interviewing, interrogation, evidence collection, testimony, and ongoing training.
