H1N1 Influenza Information

The County of San Bernardino's primary concern is the health and safety of its residents and visitors. The Department of Public Health is committed to providing updated information about the H1N1 (Swine) Influenza as soon as it is available. For facts and the most recent available information about the H1N1 outbreak, please visit the Centers for Disease Control at http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/.  You can also visit California's Department of Public Health at http://www.cdph.ca.gov/.

Health alerts and/or press releases from the County of San Bernardino's Department of Public Health will be posted in the news section below as new local information or instructions become available.

If you have flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue, it is recommended that you stay home from work or school. The Department of Public Health does not treat or test the public for influenza. Visit your primary care facility or physician for testing and treatment.

Prevention practices for the H1N1 Flu are the same as for seasonal flu. Please follow these tips:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow to avoid spreading germs on your hands.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.

  • If you get sick with flu, it is recommended that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
