Student Intern Volunteer (SIV)

Student Interns

This program is designed for student interns who are earning credits for a specific college course. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to develop knowledge, competencies, and experience related directly to your career goals. Generally, a student intern will have duties assisting either Probation Officers in the community or Probation Corrections Officers in the institutions with their assignments, which may
include investigative and interviewing work with probationers, as well as providing a variety of other necessary services.

Requirements for SIV:
  • Must submit their application at least six (6) weeks prior to the internship start date.
  • Must provide documentation verifying student enrollment, and the internship length and requirements.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not be on probation or parole
  • Must pass background investigation
  • Must have a valid Student ID
  • Must have a valid California ID or Drivers License
  • Must meet the documentation requirements of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986
Application Process for SIV:
  • Complete and submit the application. Incomplete applications will be returned.
  • Provide valid Student ID and California ID card or Drivers License
  • Complete Live Scan fingerprinting and have photo ID taken by Probation
  • Complete a screening interview
  • Pass a background investigation
  • Applicant will be required to attend a mandatory Confidentiality Training before being assigned.
