Supervisors approve funding for SCLA marketing plan
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors today
approved a $100,000 agreement with the Southern California Logistics Airport
Authority to expand a program to market the airport.
The county funding will focus on efforts to lure
technology and logistics businesses to the Interstate 15 corridor from Ontario
to Barstow.
“As the second international cargo gateway in
Southern California, SCLA will fill the region’s increasing demand for
international cargo operations, forecast to grow from 3 million to 9 million
tons per year over the next 20 years,” said San Bernardino County Supervisor
Kathy A. Davis, whose 1st District includes the airport.
“With unique features, such as a 5,000-acre site and
two 10,000-foot runways, SCLA’s potential as a pure cargo airport in
unlimited,” Supervisor Davis added.
The expanded marketing agreement unanimously approved
by the Board of Supervisors today will be administered by the county’s
Department of Economic and Community Development. SCLA will provide an initial
marketing audit to determine the types of marketing activities that would be
employed in this effort. The airport will also develop the marketing platform
and produce promotional materials.
“This is a significant step in the county’s recently enhanced focus on using our resources to develop quality jobs for the region,” said County Administrative Officer William H. Randolph. “The kinds of jobs generated by this marketing effort will heighten the quality of life for all of our citizens.”
