COUNTY LEADS SECOND BUSINESS-INTENSIVE TRADE MISSION TO CHINA

Companies on last year’s trade mission reported over $65 million in projected transactions

The County of San Bernardino is pleased to once again offer San Bernardino County businesses an opportunity to connect with potential overseas partners to sell products and services, meet competitive challenges, and expand their roster of contacts and knowledge of the global business climate. This 2007 trade mission, scheduled for October 6-14, will match local companies with Chinese partners on a fast paced tour of three of China's top business destinations-- Hong Kong, Suzhou, and Shanghai.

Brian McGowan, economic development agency administrator, explained that trade missions serve as an economic development tool to create jobs and economic opportunity for businesses. “This mission is designed to be business intensive and business exclusive. No sightseeing. We are there to conduct business and make sure that participants are exposed to a variety of opportunities.” said McGowan. “Delegates are guaranteed three pre-screened meetings with potential partners in each city.”

Companies on the 2006 trade mission to China reported over $65 million in potential transactions resulting from specific conversations with companies in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong. Several companies connected with potential suppliers who may help them gain an edge on competitors who haven't sought opportunities overseas. For others, the trip offered a chance to regain their competitive position.

“The County did more than I ever could have imagined in terms of setting up this trip for me. They made the matchmaking happen. They found me real and relevant contacts and made sure the contact got there. They made sure I got there.”
Phil Martinez, Mission Packaging, Ontario, CA.

"The match making meetings on this trip advanced our plans by several years in just one week."
Neil Mittie, E-Cyclers, Upland, CA.

"Currently we have 20 employees in our main facilities in Rancho Cucamonga. Now with the ventures we've discovered in China, we'll be able to grow 200 to 300 percent in the next few years."
Richard Richter, Ricno Technologies, Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

“It’s critical to understand that these missions bring jobs to San Bernardino County by helping local industries build on their strengths and maintain an edge of competitors overseas,” said Paul Biane, Chairman & Second District Supervisor for the County of San Bernardino. “The big picture is a globally competitive San Bernardino County economy that serves as a gateway to international business. This can happen only if we actively engage with the global economy.”
