5/20/2017 - Tickets On Sale for Bucky Ball

Tickets on sale for Museum Association Bucky Ball

2nd annual event supports museum education exhibits and programs

The San Bernardino County Museum Association hosts the second annual Bucky Ball on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 6 p.m. at the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands. Themed a midcentury moonlight mingle, the event supports the museum mission of cultural history and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education exhibits and programs benefitting the regions families and youth. Bucky Ball is inspired by the ideals of geodesic dome inventor Buckminster Bucky Fuller.

The evening will begin with a red carpet entrance, where guests will be greeted with the evenings signature martini and a photo opportunity in front of the museums iconic dome. Guests will proceed to the outdoor courtyard to mingle, bid in the silent auction, and enjoy the music of jazz musicians Barnaby Finch, Marshall Hawkins, and Paul Carman. The cocktail reception will be followed by a wine-pairing dinner, live auction and raise-the-paddle, and presentation of the first annual Good EGG Awards.

The Good EGG Award honors those in the community who demonstrate Exemplary Guidance and Generosity. The award acknowledges the museums internationally renowned collection of bird eggs, an important legacy that traces back to the museums founding 60 years ago. The inaugural recipients of the Good EGG are County Supervisor James Ramos, Redlands Noon Kiwanis Club, and Leonard X. Hernandez.

Following the evenings program, guests will meander back to the Fisk Gallery for nightcaps and kinescope reminiscences of Frank Sinatra surrounded by Visions of Southern California: The Midcentury Modern Designs of Paul Revere Williams and Maria Kipp, which serves as the inspiration for this years Bucky Ball theme.

Museum Association Board President Dean McVay, Association Executive Director Maggie Latimer, and Museum Director Melissa Russo will serve as hosts for the evening. San Bernardino County Supervisor James Ramos is the Presenting Sponsor.

The Bucky Ball audience includes representation by civic and business leaders in the region, said Latimer. We expect the evening to include exciting and engaging conversations around how we can work together to increase the support for more youth engagement in the museums mission to spark curiosity, to stimulate inquiry, to challenge assumptions, and to invite our youth to contribute to our common future.

As the largest cultural and natural history center in the region, the County Museum plays a vital role in our childrens education. Bucky Fuller, an engineer, poet, and environmentalist, had definite ideas about the importance of inquiry and experimentation; those same ideas are demonstrated daily at the San Bernardino County Museum.

The ticket price for the event is $100 per person or $75 per Museum member. Sponsorship opportunities include a $10,000 Platinum Sponsor, $5,000 Gold Sponsor, $2,500 Silver Sponsor, and $1,000 Copper Sponsor. Advance reservations are required. For more information, to purchase tickets, or to become a sponsor, visit the San Bernardino County Museum website or contact us at tteel@sbcm.sbcounty.gov or 909-798-8626.

The San Bernardino County Museums exhibits, events, and programs reflect the effort by the Board of Supervisors to achieve the Countywide Vision by celebrating arts, culture, and education in the county, creating quality of life for residents and visitors.
