Train Days preview set for Museum members

4/2/2016 - Train Days preview set for Museum members

The San Bernardino County Museum is gearing up for the annual Train Days event, and offering a free preview breakfast to Museum members. Members of the public who are not currently members may join in advance or on that morning to take advantage of this member benefit. The preview on April 2 starts at 8:30 a.m. and includes a pancake breakfast between 9 and 10:30 a.m. sponsored by the Redlands Noon Kiwanis and the San Bernardino County Museum Association.

Current museum members must show their membership cards for early admission to Train Days and to enjoy the pancake breakfast. In addition to previews and parties, member benefits include free admission to the San Bernardino County Museum all year long, and discounts in the Museum Store and on fees for programs such as the museums Summer Explorers Day Camps. One of the new premium museum member-level benefits includes participation in the ACM Reciprocal Network allowing members of the San Bernardino County Museum to visit over 200 museums in the country and receive 50 percent off general admission. Membership applications are available in advance at www.sbcounty.gov/museum.

The Redlands Noon Kiwanis was founded in 1922, an affiliate of the international organization. The club is dedicated to changing the world one community and one child at a time. The Club meets every Tuesday at noon.

Following the breakfast, the museum is soliciting participation from members and the general public in a quest to achieve the Guinness World Record for the longest Soul Train Dance, an effort that the museum estimates will take about one hour, starting at 11 a.m. According to Maggie Latimer, the museum association executive director, Our membership is accustomed to exhibit previews and special parties, and weve had dances in the past, but this promises to be an especially memorable morning!

Visitors are encouraged to be at the museum by 10:15 a.m. to receive a free t-shirt and find a spot in the Soul Train line. All ages are welcome to join the fun. Admission to the museum will be half-price between 9 a.m. and noon on April 2 to help assure that everyone can join in the dance.

Train Days and the County Museums other exciting events and exhibits reflect the effort by the Board of Supervisors to achieve the Countywide Vision by celebrating arts, culture, and education in the county, creating quality of life for residents and visitors. The San Bernardino County Museum is at 2024 Orange Tree Lane, at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. General admission is $10 (adult), $8 (military or senior), $7 (student), and $5 (child aged 5 to 12).
