Three Floods lecture at County Museum
2/20/2016 - Three Floods lecture at County Museum
Event date: Feb. 20, 2016
The San Bernardino County Museum will look back in local history with historian Steve Lech on Saturday, February 20, at 2:00 p.m. Lech will give a presentation, Three Floods,: recounting these natural phenomena along the Santa Ana River.
Despite what people think of it today, the Santa Ana River has had numerous floods throughout recorded history, said Lech. Ill discuss the 1862 flood, which was the largest, and touch on a few of the others in an effort to show that this object of (sometimes) ridicule can be a mighty force in our own backyard.
Steve Lech is a native Riversider who has been interested in the local history of Riverside County for more than 35 years, and co-authors the weekly Back in the Day column for the Press-Enterprise newspaper in which he explores many aspects of local history. He has written 10 related books, including Along the Old Roads A History of the Portion of Southern California That Became Riverside County, 1772-1893, considered to be a definitive history. He has been a docent at the historic Mission Inn hotel for more than 25 years and is a member of the Riverside County Historical Commission and the City of Riversides Cultural Heritage Board.
Special lectures and the County Museums other exciting programs and exhibits reflect the effort by the Board of Supervisors to achieve the Countywide Vision by celebrating arts, culture, and education in the county, creating quality of life for residents and visitors.
