Museum trip to the epicenter of the ShakeOut
Reservations are still being accepted for a day trip on Saturday, October 12, to explore the San Andreas Fault from Redlands to the Salton Sea. The trip, led by San Bernardino County Museum Senior Curator Kathleen Springer and Curator of Paleontology Eric Scott, is organized by the San Bernardino County Museum Association. The trip precedes the Great California ShakeOut, the world’s largest earthquake drill, scheduled at the County Museum on October 17 at 10:17 a.m.
Epicenter of the ShakeOut—The San Andreas fault from Redlands to the Salton Sea
Bubbling wells! Mud volcanoes! Explore the southern San Andreas fault and the epicenter of the Great California ShakeOut scenario. The trip includes walks up to one-half mile long over uneven terrain. Participants will meet at the county museum in Redlands at 7:00 a.m. for a 7:30 a.m. departure and return about 5 p.m. The cost is $70 per person; a Museum Association member is $60. This fee includes transportation, lunch, water, and light snacks. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes, dress in layers, and bring a hat and sunscreen. Advance reservations are required, and space is limited.
To make reservations, call Melissa Sanchez at (909) 798-8625 or visit the museum’s website to download a reservation form. The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. For more information, visit
