Curator to lead gallery walk in new museum exhibit

San Bernardino County Museum Curator of History Michele Nielsen will lead a gallery walk at the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. She will lead visitors through the Crossroads in History gallery and offer insights about “Always a Bridesmaid,” the museum’s most recent special exhibit. The program is included with museum general admission.

“Always a Bridesmaid,” sponsored by the Western Textile Center Association, features some of the artifacts in the outstanding costume collection held by the museum. Bridal gowns, men’s suits, and children’s special occasion clothing are a part of the mix, along with photographs and accessories related to weddings from the 1860s to the 1960s. “We have a wonderful costume collection here at the museum, and the exhibit is a great opportunity to share pieces from the collection with the public,” said Nielsen. “Many of the artifacts in the exhibit feature fine hand-work, including beading, braiding, embroidery, and even weaving techniques. Guests at the gallery walk will learn more about the history of the costumes and accessories on exhibit, and hear about the people who wore these gowns and suits for their special day.”

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 am to 5pm. General admission is $8 (adult), $6 (military or senior), $5 (student), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12). Children under five and Museum Association members are admitted free. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sb countymuseum.org. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. If assistive listening devices or other auxiliary aids are needed in order to participate in museum exhibits or programs, requests should be made through Museum Visitor Services at least three business days prior to your visit. Visitor Services’ telephone number is 909-307-2669 ext. 229 or (TDD) 909-792-1462.
