Museum plans trip to see wintering birds in mountains
Reservations are open for a San Bernardino County Museum Association day trip to the San Bernardino Mountains led by San Bernardino County Museum Director and ornithologist Robert McKernan on Saturday, December 8.
“We will look for birds that spend their winter in Big Bear Valley,” said McKernan. “We will spend most of the day searching for bald eagles, other raptors, and the many waterfowl species that use the Big Bear Lake during the season.”
The day will not be strenuous, but does include walking on gravel and sand. Wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes, dress in layers, and bring a hat and sunscreen. The trip will depart from the museum in Redlands at 7 a.m. and return about 5 p.m. The cost of $70 per person ($60 for a Museum Association member) includes morning coffee, lunch, and transportation. Advance reservations are required. Call the Museum Association at (909) 307-2669 ext. 225 or visit www.sbcountymuseum.org to make reservations.
