Step back in time on a curator-led walk at the Yorba and Slaughter Family Adobe in Chino on Friday, June 4 with Curator of History Michele Nielsen. This 1pm walk is open to public and free of charge.
This San Bernardino County Museum historic site features a fully furnished adobe home originally built by members of the Yorba family in the early 1850s. In 1868 Fenton and Dolores Slaughter purchased the property, and their large family resided at the site. Today, their home furnishings remain, holding clues to their fascinating lives.
Nielsen will take visitors for a tour of the adobe. Find out why the Slaughter family had two dining room tables, and how they raised 10 children on their ranch. Explore the family treasures in the house, and discover Mr. Slaughter's business enterprises and his passion for stock-raising.
This walk will begin at 1pm and end at approximately 2pm. Participants will meet in the parking lot near the winery building, and should wear walking shoes and weather-appropriate attire.
The Yorba-Slaughter Adobe, registered as California State Historical Landmark #191, is at 17127 Pomona Rincon Road in Chino. From Highway 71 (the Corona Expressway), take the Euclid Avenue exit north, turn left onto Pomona–Rincon Road and proceed to the Adobe parking lot on the right-hand side of the road.
