It is time to “moon party” at the San Bernardino County Museum on Saturday, April 24 where members of the San Bernardino Valley Amateur Astronomers will be setting up their telescopes for the public to view the gibbous moon. Starting at 8pm, this event is free to the public.
“The view of the gibbous moon is simply spectacular,” said Chris Clarke, program coordinator for the San Bernardino Valley Amateur Astronomers. “Detail visible along the day/night shadow line, or terminator, will reveal high-contrast, three dimensional views of craters, lava flows, and mountains. These features will be visible through wide variety of telescopes, ranging from small instruments to large ones, at a wide range of powers of magnification. As a bonus, visitors will also get to see Saturn, with its rings appearing rather tightly closed and its largest moon, Titan, appearing like a star near a planet. This is going to be an exciting evening for the visitors.”
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Parking is free. For more information, visit
