On Sunday, March 7, the public is invited to visit the San Bernardino County Museum free of charge from 9am to 5pm. Free admission is sponsored by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The education division will host a family fun day, “Birds Around Us,” from 8am to 5pm. Starting at 8am, before the museum opens, to 10am, families can participate in bird watching where they will learn the basics and techniques of bird watching and bird identification. Binoculars will be provided for those who don’t have their own. This activity is designed for ages 6 and up. From 1 to 5pm, visitors will explore in details the features of birds—feathers, flight, eggs, and habitat—through the lives and antics of birds. There will be games, participation activities, and interactive talks that revolve around these creatures.
From 11am to 3pm, members of the Embroiderers Guild will give demonstrations on embroidery. At 2pm, the Etiwanda High School Jazz Band will perform in the amphitheatre.
Visitors will also enjoy displays of specimens and artifacts that interpret local history, anthropology, geology, paleontology, and biological sciences in a regional context. The Exploration Station live animal gallery will be open from 1 to 4pm. Outdoor exhibits include native plant and cactus gardens, a steam locomotive and caboose, mining and lumbering equipment, heritage orange groves, and sculpture.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open from 9am to 5pm, and admission is free that day. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities.
