Curator of Geology J. Chris Sagebiel will lead a tour of the Earth’s interior in a special lecture, “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” at the San Bernardino County Museum on Sunday, April 25 at 2:00pm. This presentation is free with paid museum admission.
“I will present the lines of evidence for what we know about the nature of the Earth’s interior,” said Sagebiel. “Why are there layers and what are they made of? How is the Earth’s magnetic field generated? How can studies of earthquakes give us a peek inside the Earth? What can we learn about the Earth’s interior from meteorites and rocks on the surface of the Earth?” Sagebiel will also preview exhibits currently under construction for the new Hall of Geological Wonders that focus on the interior of the Earth.
Sagebiel has an extensive background in geology and has been with the museum for nearly 12 years leading geologic investigations throughout southern California, Arizona, and Nevada. Chris is a resident of Redlands, California.
