Registration is now open for a San Bernardino County Museum field trip along the San Andreas Fault from Redlands to Los Angeles County on Saturday, September 26. Led by Senior Curator Kathleen Springer and Curator of Geology J. Chris Sagebiel, the trip will leave the museum at 7:30 a.m. and return about 5 p.m.
“We will cross the fault as it makes its way through Cajon Pass, with stops at Blue Cut and Lost Lake in Lone Pine Canyon,” said Sagebiel. “In the San Gabriel Mountains, we will view evidence of faulting in Wrightwood from the major 1812 quake, and look at the rupture from the great 1857 quake. From the highest point of the fault at Big Pines, we’ll descend into the desert and catch up with the fault trace again where it is spectacularly displayed at Devil’s Punchbowl.”
The cost of $60 per person ($50 for Museum Association members) includes transportation, coffee and muffins, lunch, snacks, and water. Participants should wear sturdy shoes for moderate hikes.
Space is limited, and pre-paid registration is required by September 21. Call LaWanda Avery-Brown at (909) 307-2669 ext. 225 or 250, or visit www.sbcountymuseum.org for a registration form, also available at the museum’s front desk.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands.
