Free Museum Admission

The San Bernardino County Museum invites the public to visit the museum free of charge on Sunday, September 6 from 9am to 5pm. Free admission is sponsored by San Bernardino County’s Third District. The museum will also be open on Labor Day Monday, September 7, when regular fees apply for admission.

Visitors will enjoy special exhibits as well as displays of specimens and artifacts that interpret local history, anthropology, geology, paleontology, and biological sciences in regional context. Special exhibits are “Gadgets and Gizmos: inventing the modern world” and “The Art of Ramón Contreras and the Mexican Muralists Movement.”

The Exploration Station live animal gallery will be open from 1 to 4pm. Outdoor exhibits include native plant and cactus gardens, a steam locomotive and caboose, mining and lumbering equipment, heritage orange groves, and sculpture.

From 3 to 4:30pm on Sunday, the San Bernardino Symphony Trio will perform in the Hall of Geological Wonders amphitheatre. Comprised of concertmaster Todor Pelev, principal cellist Ana Marie Maldonado and violinist Tom Sender, the trio will play a selection of engaging musical pieces ranging from the Baroque era to the 20th century.

Ana Marie Maldonado of Fontana, who leads the trio, teaches at CSUSB, Cal Poly Pomona, Chaffey College and Cal Baptist University. She is also a member of the Loma Linda Lyric Orchestra.

Todor Pelev, who became a Concertmaster for the San Bernardino Symphony in 1993, teaches at Pomona College, Cal Baptist University, and Idyllwild Arts. He serves as the principal violinist for The Pageant of the Masters Orchestra, and has performed as a soloist internationally as well as throughout Southern California.

Violinist Tom Sender of Los Angeles, who joined the San Bernardino Symphony in 2003, plays in the first violin section of the orchestra. He is a freelance violinist, a composer in Los Angeles, and a member of several other orchestras.  

The San BernardinoCountyMuseum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open from 9am to 5pm. Everyone is admitted free on Sunday, September 6. Parking is free.

On September 7 Labor Day Monday, regular admission fees apply: $8 adult, $6 senior or military, $5 student, $4 child, Museum Association member and child under 5 are free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org.
