Chemistry Fair at the County Museum
11/10/2007 - Chemistry Fair at the County Museum
Chemistry is everywhere?our earth, our food, even in ourselves we find chemistry in action. The San Bernardino County Museum will celebrate National Chemistry Week on Saturday, November 10 from 1:00?5:00 pm. With guidance from Chemistry Club students at California State University, San Bernardino, visitors will enjoy fun and safe activities. Chemistry Fair activities are free with museum admission.
"This year's event theme is 'Chemistry in the World Around Us'," said Jennifer Bell, lecturer in the Chemistry Department at Cal State San Bernardino. "Club members have been preparing to show museum visitors how chemistry relates to everyday objects and events. Chemistry explains how things work."
"Our visitors have really enjoyed this event in the past," said Jolene Redvale, curator of education. "We are happy to bring the event back this year. I can't wait to see what experiments the students will bring with them."
Using everyday household items, museum visitors will be able to see chemistry in action. "Here's an example: if you pour baking soda and vinegar into your kitchen sink drain, what will happen? You get chemistry in action," continued Redvale.
The Chemistry Fair will demonstrate how to make things dissolve, a good trick for getting rid of some unwanted stuff. Visitors will also make their own slime. Chemistry students will give tips on the many uses of slime.
