Photo Opportunity: Fire evacuees at the Museum
10/26/2007 - Photo Opportunity: Fire evacuees at the Museum
On Friday, October 26, the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands will welcome children and parents evacuated to the Orange Show Events Center because of southern California wildfires. The first buses will load at the Events Center with museum visitors at 9:00 a.m. and arrive at the museum in Redlands about 9:30 a.m. The outing is being organized by the Salvation Army and American Red Cross, Inland Empire chapter, with coordination through the County Board of Supervisors, the County Assessor, and the County Museum. The children and their parents will be admitted to the museum free of charge. Refreshments are being contributed by local merchants. The San Bernardino County Museum Association and the San Bernardino National Forest are also participating in making this opportunity a reality.
The museum is always a great destination for families, and we are pleased to welcome these families who have been temporarily displaced by these catastrophic fires and to provide special tours of the countys wonderful museum, said Robert McKernan, museum director. As it happens, our special exhibit called Living on the Edge has a lot of information about wildland fires in the San Bernardino Mountains in the recent and not so recent past. Perhaps this exhibit will help provide some perspective and understanding during this stressful time.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The run of Living on the Edge has been extended until November 4, 2007.
