Gallery Walk on Museum Exhibit Design
8/18/2007 - Gallery Walk on Museum Exhibit Design
Visitors will have an opportunity to join Museum Exhibits Designer Carey C. Smith for a personal guided tour of the San Bernardino County Museums Hall of History and Anthropology, currently undergoing renovation. The gallery walk, on Saturday, August 18, at 2:00 p.m. is free with museum admission.
The walk will provide a from-the-drawing-board-and-beyond look at the exhibit, where Smith will share his creative process including drawing, design, graphics, motifs, and fabrication. Visitors will get an in-depth and detailed look at how temporary and permanent museum exhibits are conceived and constructed. The Hall of History is currently undergoing the first phases of long-range plans to update and reinterpret the museums permanent galleries. This project coincides with the construction of the new Hall of Geological Wonders.
Visitors will get a real hard-hat experience, said Smith. Rather than look at a finished product, we will be immersed in a work-in-progress. We will look at museum exhibits from the perspective of design, painting, construction, and installation. As is obvious from the paint cans, ladders, tarps, and exhibit cases, the exhibits division is right in the middle of the Hall of History project. During this walk, visitors can join right in.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays and holiday Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6 (adult), $5 (student or senior), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12). Children under five and Museum Association members are admitted free. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org.
The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. If assistive listening devices or other auxiliary aids are needed in order to participate in museum exhibits or programs, requests should be made through Museum Visitor Services at least three business days prior to your visit.
