Moon Party at the County Museum
8/25/2007 - Moon Party at the County Museum
The gibbous moon phase is about five days past the first quarter phase, said Christopher Clarke of the Amateur Astronomers. This lovely phase reveals all sorts of crater and mountain detail. Also prominent are the large, dark, expansive Mariagreat ancient lava flows that look like seas and were created about 3 billion years ago.
The word gibbous is from the Latin for hump. In reference to astronomy, it means that more than half of a planet or moon can be seen, but the entire disk is not illuminated.
Several telescopes of different sizes and types will be set up at the museums parking lot that evening. All ages are welcome.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org.
