International Museum Day at the County Museum
The San Bernardino County Museum will celebrate International Museum Day on Sunday, May 6 with free admission and a variety of activities. Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., free admission is sponsored by Century 21 Lois Lauer Realty.
"International Museum Day has been celebrated world-wide since 1977," said Jolene Redvale, museum curator of education. "The event offers museums an opportunity to remind their visitors that they are institutions in the service of society and are important means of cultural exchange, cultural enrichment, and development of mutual understanding. And International Museum Day is also a day of fun and learning."
This popular event returns this year with object identification and "Animal Masks" family fun activity. From noon to 4 p.m., visitors can "Stump the Curators" by bringing in objects for the museum curators to identify. All objects must be carried in by hand and all items must stay in the possession of their owners. "Stump the Curators" is structured to answer questions and offer information about objects related to cultural and natural history, and is not for appraisals. Visitors with artifacts will be directed through the patio entrance in order to meet the requirements of the Pest Management Policy. Curators will be available to be "stumped" from noon to 4 p.m. only.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. families will enjoy making animal masks with the education division. Visitors can create their own unique animal masks or decorate ready-made ones to bring home.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Everyone will be admitted free on Sunday, May 6. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org.
