Volunteer opportunities at the county museum
New opportunities to volunteer in the Education Division of the San Bernardino County Museum will be explored at a special potluck luncheon and training session on Sunday, January 28, from noon to 2:00 p.m. Prospective volunteers are invited to be guests for lunch in the Education Center to learn more about the museum's history and anthropology exhibits.
A second lunch on Thursday, February 1, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. will include a dynamic presentation by Kathleen Springer, senior curator of geological sciences.
Volunteers are also invited to the New Education Volunteer Open House on Thursday evening, February 8, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Museum's Hall of History. Discover the variety of jobs that Education volunteers do at the Museum and experience a Cart Talk with one of the museum's "vintage" volunteers.
"These programs and luncheons will provide both information and inspiration," said Nancy Kirkwood, museum educator. "More formal training for the important volunteer job as a Museum Interpreter can then be scheduled for new volunteers."
New volunteers will sign up for one session of "Training, Part 1" and one session of "Training, Part 2." Part 1 is offered on Thursday, February 15 from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. or Friday, February 16, from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. Part 2 sessions are Thursday, February 22, from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. or Friday, February 23, from 9:30 - noon.
"If new volunteers can only come on one day, we are offering one combined marathon training session on Saturday, February 24, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.," said Kirkwood. "For this session, bring a snack for a mid-training break!"
Sign up for these training sessions by calling Nancy Kirkwood at 909-307-2669 ext. 271 and leave a message, including name and phone number. More information is also posted on the museum's web site at www.sbcountymuseum.org.
