Senior Curator of Geological Sciences Kathleen Springer will take a tour of the earth’s interior in a special lecture, “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” at the San Bernardino County Museum on Sunday, June 11 at 2:00 pm. This presentation is free with museum admission.
“I will present the lines of evidence as to what we know about the nature of the earth’s interior,” said Springer. “Why are there layers and what are they made of? Did you know the earth’s magnetic field is caused by convection currents in the molten iron outer core of the earth? How can studies of earthquakes gives us a peek in the interior of the Earth? How do rocks on the surface of the earth as well as meteorites from extraterrestrial sources tell us about what is on the inside of the earth?” Springer will also give visitors a preview of the upcoming Hall of Geological Wonders’ exhibits that will focus on the interior of the earth.
