Textile Odyssey at County Museum
An exhibition showcasing contemporary textile arts, entitled “A Textile Odyssey,” will open at the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands on Saturday, August 5. The exhibit, free with museum admission, will run through Labor Day Monday, September 4.
The exhibit features striking hand-woven, beaded, and stitched works created by members of the Western Textile Center Association affiliates. These groups include the Bedazzled Beaders, the American Needlepoint Guild, the Embroidery Guild of America, and the Inland Empire Handweaver’s Guild.
“The Western Textile Center Association is an adjunct organization of the San Bernardino County Museum,” said Curator of History Michele Nielsen. “It sponsors public programming, exhibits, and projects that introduce museum visitors to the textile arts. The WTCA also supports museum preservation and storage activities related to our extensive textile and costume collections.”
Fiber artists and beaders represented in the exhibit are Michelle J. Lee, Marie Hartmann, Kathleen Waln, Pats Mundwiler, Karen Chalmers, Suzanne Chappell, Eugenia E. Thorp, June Adams, Sharyl Ewart, Rebecca Lorimer, Joe Kent, Mary Gould–De Mong, Liz Lennert, Sharon Quick, Laurie McLellan, Barbara Shively, Kathy Bergk, Eleanore Stone, Michele Brown, Carol Algie Higginbotham, Roberta Cook, and Pat Correz.
