Sneak Preview III - Mineral Exhibits in the new Hall of Geological Wonders
It is coming soon! Curator of Geology Chris Sagebiel sneaks a peek at the San Bernardino County Museum's proposed new Hall of Geological Wonders in a gallery talk on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. The talk is free with museum admission.
In his gallery talk, titled “Jewels of the Desert,” Sagebiel will show jewels from the museum’s mineral collections and discuss their future home. For the first time, unique mineral exhibit plans for the new Hall of Geological Wonders will be shared with the public. These innovative exhibits will reveal the wonders of Earth's construction on an underground scientific journey. Travel to the Earth's core, feel and hear the inner workings of our planet, and much more.
Chris Sagebiel is a graduate of the University of Texas, where he earned a Masters of Science Degree in Geological Sciences. After working with at the Texas Memorial Museum, he joined the staff at the San Bernardino County Museum as a collections manager in the geological sciences division and currently serves as the museum’s curator of geology. Sagebiel is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Riverside in the Graduate Group in Genetics, Genomics, and Bioinformatics, studying an array of extinct mammals from South America.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays and holiday Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6 (adult), $5 (student or senior), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12).
