Moon Party at the County Museum
See mammoth craters big enough to drop an entire city into when the telescopes come out on Saturday, August 13 at the San Bernardino County Museum. The museum’s education division and the San Bernardino Valley Amateur Astronomers are hosting a Moon Party to observe the first-quarter moon. The party runs from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and is free to the public.
Numerous telescopes will be set up to reveal the fascinating face of the moon up close, as if you were flying over it in a spacecraft. Huge craters, gigantic mountains towering over barren landscapes, and vast pock-marked flows of lava will be visible. Members of the Amateur Astronomers will assist visitors with telescopic details.
The San Bernardino Valley Amateur Astronomers are an affiliate group of the San Bernardino County Museum, working with the museum to present specialized programs for adults, families, and children. Another Moon Party is scheduled at the museum on September 10 from 8 to 9:30 p.m..
