FAMILY FUN DAYS

Saturday, September 27: Growing Up California
Try out life like it was in the 1800s in California!  Try beating a rug or washing clothes in a washtub, make a real adobe brick to take home, make butter, dip a candle, assemble your own whirly gig toy, play old-time games, or join in any of the other fun activities. 

    • “Growing Up Californian” will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • Come early so you have time to do everything!
    • All activities and games are free with Museum admission!

Tuesday, October 7: Moon Party at the Asistencia
View the moon and night sky through large telescopes provided by the San Bernardino Amateur Astronomers. This free event is at the Redlands Asistencia, located at 26930 Barton Road in Redlands, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, October 18: Multicultural Celebration of Dance
Do you enjoy music, pageantry, and learning more about cultural traditions through dance? Experience the excitement of more than 12 live performances, and try a few new steps yourself. Chat with performers to learn more about their techniques and the history behind their moves. Bring your family, a picnic, and of course, your dancing shoes! Some dances you’ll be able to try include hula, folklorico, Tahitian, Spanish fan, and steps from a Middle Eastern tradition. 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Performances and activities are free with Museum admission.

Sunday, November 2: Earthquakes!
Watch out – the “big one” is coming! Learn how earthquakes happen and what you and your family can do to prepare yourselves.

  • Activities will be shaking from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • All earthquake activities are free!
  • Museum admission is FREE today, thanks to the Third District of San Bernardino County.

Sunday, November 2: Hand Weaving Demonstration
Come watch as the Inland Empire Handweavers demonstrate weaving from noon until 2:00 p.m. Demonstration and Museum admission are FREE today, thanks to the Third District of San Bernardino County!

Saturday, November 22: Arts and Crafts
Come see some wonderful artwork inspired by animals and the natural world around us, and then have fun making your own artwork! Create a critter from natural materials, design a beautiful eagle mosaic, carve a critter to take home with you, and learn how to draw an animal from a real artist!

  • Family arts and crafts activities will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Artist Trudy Wood will teach art to children 9 to 15 years old.
    • “Drawing for Kids” classes are at 9:30, 11:00, 2:15, and 3:45.
    • “Introduction to Pastels” class at 12:45 is for kids who are already good at
      drawing and want to learn pastel techniques.
    • Classes are free, but space is limited.
    • Workshop tickets will be available at the front desk at 9:00 a.m.
  • Art activities, classes, and Museum admission are FREE today!!

Sunday, November 23: Arts and Crafts
Join us for a day of arts, crafts, and fun! Design a beautiful eagle mosaic, create a critter from natural materials, carve an animal to take home with you, and learn how to draw an animal from a real artist! Remember to visit with the live animals, too!

  • Family arts and crafts activities will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Friday, December 12 or Saturday, December 13: Santa’s Pajama Party
Due to popular demand, Santa will be visiting with kids at the Museum on two evenings this year! Get your pajamas ready for our annual party with Santa from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Bring your family to the Museum to play Christmas games, hear holiday stories, make winter crafts, sing songs, have refreshments, and visit with Santa. Choose either Friday or Saturday, then register at the Museum. The cost is just $10.00 per person, and babies under age 1 are free. The deadline for registering is December 5 and space is limited. Registration form is online at www.sbcountymuseum.org.

Sunday, January 4: Needlepoint Demonstration
Get 2009 off to a good start by visiting the Museum to see the American Needlepoint Guild demonstrate their fancy stitching from noon until 2:00 p.m. Demonstration and Museum admission are FREE today!

Saturday and Sunday, January 17 and 18: Train Days!
All aboard! Come to the Museum to see trains, trains, and more trains! Watch model trains as they run around their layouts. Talk to people about their train artifacts and memories. See special displays of railroadiana. Families can play train games and create (paper) locomotives.

  • All train activities will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days.
  • Displays and activities are free with Museum admission.
  • Museum admission is half-price for children ages 5 through 17 this weekend! Kids under 5 are always free
