|
Regina Weatherspoon-Bell is owner and president of Gi & Associates a boutique Marketing & Event Production Company. Ms. Weatherspoon-Bell has extensive experience in providing an array of career and project services to several notable individuals, companies and organizations in the Arts & Entertainment industry. Ms. Weatherspoon-Bell mentors young people in her community. She is a volunteer to several community, faith based and business organizations including Apple Valley Unified School District, Victor Valley Museum & Art Gallery, and A Better Way Domestic Violence Shelter. She also serves on the Lewis Center/AAE Foundation Board. Her particular interest is advocating for and empowering women and children through education while promoting whole health. Regina produces the annual Today’s Woman Expo, which is one of the largest Women’s Expos in the High Desert, sponsored by Choice Medical Group. She was recognized in 2007 as Woman of the Year by 59th District Assemblyman Anthony Adams. As a Commissioner, her focus is to further the awareness and importance of the whole health of women. |

Raghada Khoury
is
the president of the Domestic Violence Shelter for Women and
Children in the Victor Valley.
She
is also a board member for the Rotary Club of Apple Valley and
serves as President Elect.
She
is an active Rotarian providing community services.
She
was also recently appointed to the Park and Recreation Commission
for the Town of Apply Valley.
Ms. Khoury is a 2001 graduate of the University of Redlands with a Masters of Arts in Management majoring in Business Management and minoring in Human Resources. She is a member of the Republican Women Federated in the High Desert. She is an investor as well as a Family Service Director. As a Commissioner on the San Bernardino County Commission on the Status of Women and the sitting Chair of the Commission, she is an advocate for the safety and prosperity of all women. |

|
Carolyn Anderson is a native Southern Californian. She lives in Upland with her husband, Jim Anderson. Together they have six children and 9 grandchildren. Mrs. Anderson works for Waste Management as Manager of Public Sector Services with the Greater Los Angeles Market Area. Carolyn is a member and past President of the Rotary Club of Ontario, past-president of the Rancho Cucamonga Noon Rotary Club and has served as Assistant Governor for Rotary District 5300, Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) committee, and the Group Study Exchange (GSE) committee. Regionally, she is active in several organizations such as: San Bernardino County’s Commission on the Status of Women, appointed by Supervisor Paul Biane – Commissioner; Travelers’ Aid of the Inland Empire – 2003/2005 President; Upland Council Advisory Committee, appointed by Mayor Pomierski – Chairman; Habitat for Humanity Pomona Valley Chapter – Advisory Board; Rancho Cucamonga Chamber of Commerce – Golf Committee Chair- member of Board of Directors; Corona Chamber of Commerce- member Board of Directors/Government Relations-Transportation Committee Chair; and founding member of the San Gabriel Valley Public Affairs Network. |

|
Shirley A. Simmons is the owner and founder of Simmons and Simmons Associates Management Consultants. She is also co-owner of Integrated Strategies Group, a professional coaching firm. Ms. Simmons holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management, with Undergraduate Degrees in Communication, Business Communication, and Speech Communication. She is recognized locally and nationally as a dynamic educator and motivational speaker. She brings a great talent in interpersonal and motivational communication. Ms. Simmons is continuously involved in community issues, such as helping families develop skills for living and leadership. Ms. Simmons is currently a Communication Engagement Specialist for First 5 San Bernardino. She designed and coordinated the Commission’s Project, New Beginnings. |

Patty Worsham Second District |

|
Patty was appointed to the Commission in August 2008. She is devoted to the causes of women and children, with an emphasis on education. She believes that everyone is entitled to a quality education and wants children to grow up having learned life learning and sustainable skills. Patty is currently a full-time, tenured, Associate Professor of Business Administration at Riverside Community College, Norco campus (RCC). She has also worked as a lecturer in the Management and Human Resources Department of the College of Business at Cal Poly, Pomona since 1997. For ten years, Patty served as the Vice President of Finance and Administration for Paranetics Technology, Inc., a company she co-founded and co-operated. Paranetics Technology, Inc. is a leading defense contractor that specializes in the design and manufacturing of non-personnel parachutes for the Department of Defense. Patty holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara; a Master of Business Administration degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; and has completed work toward her doctoral degree at the Claremont Graduate University, Drucker School of Management. Patty is committed to helping adults achieve their educational goals. She serves as the advisor to the Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team at RCC, where her team has competed at the Regional competition for the past five years. Her special interests lie in helping students gain skills that will help them achieve their career goals. Patty has been a resident of Upland all her life, except for her time away at college in Santa Barbara. Patty has been married to Tere for the past 12 years, and together they have an 8 year-old daughter and a 5 year-old son. Patty has many hobbies including running, biking, traveling, reading, and competing in triathlons. |

Evelyn Alexander Commissioner Third District |

|
Evelyn Alexander is a native of San Bernardino where she still resides. She has an AA Degree in Business and retired from the City of San Bernardino after nearly 44 years. She was one of the first women designated in the management group by the City. She is a Life member of Soroptimist International of San Bernardino having been active in the woman’s service club for over 35 years. She has been a volunteer with 1st Valley Credit Union, formerly San Bernardino City Employees Credit Union, for over 40 years currently serving on Board of Directors as Secretary. Alexander, the first woman member of the Arrowhead Parlor of the Native Sons of the Golden West, is currently serving as Second Vice President of the Parlor. She has also been serving as President of the Del Rosa Neighborhood Action Group for the past ten years; the association is the oldest and largest of the 60 Neighborhood Associations in San Bernardino. Having served on the San Bernardino Police Commission for six years she resigned to accept an appointment by Mayor Pat Morris to serve on the San Bernardino Civil Service Commission where she has been serving for the past two years. She has received a number of awards over the years, more recently being named San Bernardino Citizen of the Month and Native Sons’ Volunteer of the Year. She is a single mother of two adult sons; she has three grandsons and one great grandson. She was appointed to the Commission by Third District Supervisor Neil Derry. |

Roberta Shouse Commissioner Third District |

|
Roberta Shouse’s esteemed history with San Bernardino County involved serving on numerous boards and committees, receiving many honors, and having served her community with distinction. In 1993, Ms. Shouse was named as one of “Ten Who Make a Difference” by the San Bernardino Sun Newspaper. In 2004, Ms. Shouse received the Foundation on the Improvement of Justice Award. Ms. Shouse has been the Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino since 1978. In 1985, the Federal Auditor recommended that the program operated by Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino be used as a model program. Roberta Shouse is a fiery advocate for women’s and children’s rights, and those who suffer poverty and injustice. She is affiliated with: the National Women’s Political Caucus of Orange County; Planned Parenthood; the State and County Commissions on the Status of Women; Business and Professional Women; League of Women Voters; Redlands, Highland and San Bernardino Democratic Clubs; the Inland Area Debate Society; ACLU; City of Hope; Amnesty International; the State Bar Judicial Nominee Evaluation Commission; along with the Equal Opportunity Commission for the County of San Bernardino. She coordinated and hosted the weekly public access television program, “Legal Issues”, from 1986-1992. Ms. Shouse also served as a member of the San Bernardino County Civil Service Commission from 1986-1992. Ms. Shouse has also worked intermittently with the young ladies at juvenile hall. |

Patti Termini Commissioner Third District |

|
Patti Termini has always found women’s and children’s issues to be her central concerns. Because of this, Ms. Termini gladly accepted the appointment by Supervisor Dennis Hansberger to serve on the County of San Bernardino Commission on the Status of Women. Ms. Termini has been a Licensed Marriage, Family Therapist for over 20 years. She serves in the role of Family Court Mediator within the Superior Court of California in the County of San Bernardino. In this role, she works with many families to assist them in resolving child custody and visitation matters. She also helps families deal appropriately and sensitively with the difficult family issues and concerns that arise in divorce, separation or paternity cases. During her career with the Superior Court, Ms. Termini has served in a multitude of capacities. Although mediation has always been her main focus, her talents as a teacher, program developer, grant writer, and video producer have been called upon by the Court and community when needed. Ms. Termini co-produces with the Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino, a local television show on Channel 3. This show covers a variety of legal issues such as child custody and visitation, divorce, legal guardianships for children, evictions and more. |

Denise Smith Carrington Commissioner Fourth District |

|
Fourth District Supervisor, Gary Ovitt, appointed Denise Smith Carrington to the Commission on the Status of Women in March 2005. She served as Co-Chair from 2005 to 2006. Ms. Smith Carrington attended the University of Phoenix. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Ms. Smith Carrington previously worked for the Automobile Club of Southern California (AAA) for over 13 years as an insurance agent. She was responsible for the development of new customers, while managing an existing customer base. In October 2005, Ms. Smith Carrington left AAA, and became the owner of her own insurance agency, Brook Insurance. Ms. Smith Carrington is active in Soroptimists, an International women’s service organization. She has served as assistant treasurer and chaired the 2005 -2006 Service Budget Committee. Ms. Smith Carrington is a former Board Member of Neighborhood Partnership Housing Service and was the Committee Chair for the insurance program. Ms. Smith Carrington resides in Montclair, CA with her husband, Art. |

Cheryl Leon Commissioner Fourth District |

|
The recently-appointed Commissioner from the Fourth District, Cheryl Leon has lived in Ontario for almost 30 years, and has been married for 23 years to the current mayor of Ontario, Paul Leon. The Leons have 2 children who are 26 and 28 years old. Our daughter has finished law school and has passed the Bar and is an attorney. Our son is a loan broker in Scottsdale Arizona. Both children are happily married and our son and daughter in law have made us very proud grandparents of Gage Evan Leon, born April 12th 2007. Cheryl and her husband were youth pastors, mentoring youth for 12 years in the Inland Empire. In 1999 they took on the senior pastorate at Hope Chapel, where they currently serve. Cheryl continues to mentor young adults and is the women's director at Hope Chapel. Cheryl is the founder of Inland Empire Christian Women's Unity Gathering. The event is held twice a year. The mission statement: To bring women of all ages, creeds, and ethnicities together in order to educate, motivate and inspire, with an evangelistic focus. The vision: To bring unity to the community. Cheryl’s values are that she is loving, non- judgmental, and uncompromising. Her core qualities encompass a passion for Jesus Christ and His Word, a commitment to unity, a respect for diversity, and a devotion to helping women. There are 500 strong, and growing, in this dynamic movement. Cheryl’s hobby is photography and her passion for it has her taking classes in her spare time. |

Kim Carter Commissioner Fifth District |

|
Kim Carter is Founder/Executive Director of Time for Change Foundation, a transitional housing program providing re-entry services to women recovering from the effects of mental and physical abuse, incarceration and homelessness. She uses professional and personal experiences to assist women back into after incarceration or drug rehabilitation. She advocates women and their issues to empower them to overcome obstacles preventing them from leading full and productive lives. She mirrors her idol, Harriet Tubman, by lighting a path and leading other to freedom from addiction and incarceration. Her motto is, “A lit candle loses nothing when it lights another.” Ms. Carter is certified in Accounting, with an emphasis on nonprofit accounting. As an alumna of Cedar House Rehabilitation Center, she is the only former client to come back and serve on its Board of Directors, as the Treasurer and on the Executive Board and is the Finance Chair. Ms. Carter was also, a 2005 WPI Fellow. As one of just 24 women selected from across California to participate in the Women’s Policy Institute Fellowship, where she learned how to advocate and create policies necessary to advance an agenda to better serve women and girls in California. She holds several positions such as: Commissioner for the Gender Responsive Strategies Commission with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; Secretary of the League of Women Voters; and she sits on several advisory boards. She is a founding member of Forever Free Alumni Association, comprised of 450 formerly incarcerated, recovering women who have successfully maintained their freedom, sobriety, becoming active leaders in their communities. Ms. Carter has receive several distinguished awards for her work in the community such as 2004 N.A.A.C.P. “Community Pioneer Award”, 2005 San Bernardino Soroptimist’s Women Making a Difference Award, the KCET 2005 Unsung Hero Award, 2005 San Bernardino County “Herstory” Award and the 2006 League of Women Voter Award to name a few. She has been featured in several local newspapers: the Sun, the Black Voice News, and the Precinct Reporter.

Hattie Inge Commissioner Fifth District |

|
Hattie Inge, the Commissioner from the Fifth District, has been a resident of Rialto for thirty-five years. She is a retired registered nurse and the Founder/President of the Rialto Black History Committee, Inc. Hattie is a world-traveler and has devoted most of her life serving the County and Community wherever she has lived. The loves of her life are her children, helping the elderly, helping young people to attend college through scholarships, and living as an example for youth to follow. Hattie has received many honors in her lifetime, including Rialto Citizen of the Year, Inland Empire Hero Award, Woman of the Year, Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Women of Beauty, Women of Excellence awards. She was Sorority Sister of the Year, received the Caring Citizen Award, the Inland Empire Outstanding Citizen Award, Governor Deukmejan Letter of Congratulation, and letters of congratulations from President Bill Clinton, Senator Diane Feinstein, Senator Barbara Boxer, and Senator Nell Soto. Hattie is a member of NAACP, AARP, American Legion Auxiliary, Chamber of Commerce Rialto, Inland African-American Chamber, Democratic Luncheon Committee, and a Board Member of the East Valley Retired Volunteer program. She also belongs to the Friends of the Rialto Senior Center, is a Senior Advocate on the Housing Task Force 2007, a member of the Norton Air Force Base Wives’ Club, and the California Nurses Association. Hattie attended Alabama State University, the University of Maryland, Riverside City College, Anthony Real Estate License School, and the ROP Floristry of Redlands, in pursuit of her education. Hattie has many hobbies, including being an avid gardener; enjoying bowling, bicycle riding, traveling, jewelry making, and crafts. Hattie has been married for fifty-five years and is the mother of six children, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of one. She belongs to the Loveland Church of Ontario/Rialto.

Laura Morales Commissioner Fifth District |
|
Laura Morales is the Executive Director of
the Colton Chamber of Commerce and is married to Ruben Morales, a
lifelong resident and business owner in Colton.
Together, they have 3 children: Ruben, 14, Nicholas, 9, and Isabella, 6. Immediately following high school, Laura volunteered as a counselor at the San Bernardino Rape Crisis Center. In the early part of her career, Laura worked in the staffing industry as an administrative assistant and quickly promoted to Program Manager, managing over 200 employees for almost 10 years. She also served on the Board for Colton Tee Ball from 1999-2003. In 2004, when her 15 month old daughter was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes, Laura decided to take action and began work for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Inland Empire Chapter. Starting as a volunteer, Laura was later hired as the Special Events Coordinator and Fundraising Coordinator for JDRF. Laura coordinated the annual Walk to Cure Diabetes which raised over $500,000, the annual Dream Gala and started the JDRF Kids Walk (Inland Empire). Laura visited schools to teach healthy eating habits and facts about diabetes. When her daughter started kindergarten, Laura decided to leave JDRF in order to help with her daily care during school. Laura was featured in Inland Empire Magazine for her volunteer and charity work for JDRF. In 2009, Laura was the recipient of the “2009 Woman of The Year” award from Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod and a recipient of Assembly Member Wilmer Amina Carter’s “30 Under 30” award. Currently, Laura serves as a Fifth District Commissioner for the County of San Bernardino’s Commission on the Status of Women. Laura strives to improve her family’s quality of life and desires to make a difference in the world. She has a strong background in public relations, marketing, fundraising, community development, and enjoys working with people. Laura volunteers to help with community, charity or non-profit events, especially with JDRF, and is determined to find a cure for this deadly disease. Laura’s takes pride in everything she does, with the goal of being the best she can be and helping as many people as she can. For Laura, failure is not an option and she can succeed at anything she sets her mind to.
