Lateral Entry

Lateral Entry is open to qualified employees who are currently employed with other recognized public agencies in job classifications comparable to those in San Bernardino County for which Lateral Entry has been approved.

Candidates may apply by completing the Lateral Entry Application form and submitting the required documentation demonstrating that the qualifications for Lateral Entry have been met.  Qualified candidates will be placed on the appropriate eligible list for one year and may be referred to hiring departments.



Qualification Criteria

In order to qualify for Lateral Entry, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Candidate's current position must be a comparable job classification with the same or greater minimum requirements and/or duties and responsibilities
  • Candidate's current position must have been obtained through a competitive process in a recognized public agency
  • Candidate must have completed twelve (12) months of continuous full-time satisfactory service in current position


Application Requirements

Applications for Lateral Entry will only be accepted if the following documentation is attached:
  • Completed Lateral Entry Application form or résumé
  • Most recent Work Performance Evaluation from your current comparable job classification
  • Job Description (Class Specification)
