San Bernardino County Department of Public Health Nutrition Program
The Better For You! Program recognizes restaurants that offer meals lower in fat, cholesterol and sodium. A special symbol - a happy heart wearing a chef's hat - marks these menu items prepared to this healthier standard.

As many Southern Californians rush between work, family, school, and church commitments, a restaurant meal can give a "breather" to the usual shopping, cooking, and dishwashing routine.

Restaurants in San Bernardino County and their customers benefit from having menu items lower in fat, cholesterol, and sodium. Many chronic diseases and conditions, including diabetes, high blood cholesterol, and high blood pressure (hypertension) can be prevented or better controlled by a healthful diet.

At the restaurant, ask for:
heart Meat, poultry, or fish to be broiled, grilled, baked, steamed or poached rather than fried or sauteed. Remove skin and extra fat.
heart Fresh, raw, or steamed vegetables to accompany your entree.
heart Dressings, sauces, and gravies to be served on the side.
heart Steamed (warm) soft corn tortillas in place of fried chips.
heart A take home box. Take half of the meal home to enjoy the next day.
