The division is responsible for removing trees killed by the Bark Beetles in the Mountain Communities. The primary avenue for tree removal is contract funds from various grants. This division is unique since it is 100% grant funded. The division coordinates activity with the Mountain Area Safety Task Force (MAST). The division coordinates with County Fire for the accountability of grant funds and tree removal counts, as well as needs for future grant funding. The division is with the Flood Control District due to its protection of the water shed function and close working relationship to the National Resource Conservation Services (NRCS).
