Amgen Tour of California

Photo of Neil Derry in Press Conference for Amgen Tour of California Supervisor Neil Derry joined Big Bear Lake leaders in announcing the selection of Big Bear Lake as the first-ever mountaintop finish for the Amgen Tour of California. The bicycle race is a Tour de France style event hosted by 16 cities and spanning eight days and nearly 800 miles traversing California’s varied topography. It is the largest such competition in America and will feature the legendary Lance Armstrong and a variety of other elite athletes.

On Friday, May 21st, cyclists will leave Pasadena and travel a route that will wind through the beautiful San Bernardino mountains with a grueling climb to Big Bear Lake.

“All eyes will be on San Bernardino County as we host the first-ever mountaintop finish and I am excited about the immediate economic impact and broader ability to showcase our region as a great place to do business,” Supervisor Derry said. “Past host cities and surrounding regions have seen a noticeable impact in economic activity and we are hopeful that we can benefit from the same during these tough economic times.”     Read More
