What is Environmental Health?
Environmental Health is a challenging and dynamic field focused on the preservation of our natural resources and improvement of environmental factors, such as the quality of air, water, land and food, that affect the health and safety of our community.

What does an Environmental Health Specialist do?
Through the San Bernardino County DIVISION OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SERVICES, a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (R.E.H.S.) enforces environmental and public health laws in the community, as well as provides education on environmental health issues. An Environmental Health Specialist may also be called upon to...

bullet Respond to public health threats, such as chemical spills or natural disasters
bullet Investigate source and transmission of disease-causing organisms
bullet Review legislation dealing with environmental health issues
bullet Enforce federal, state, and local regulations
bullet Inspect regulated business/industry, such as hazardous waste generators and food facilities

As an Environmental Health Specialist, your skills may be applied to a variety of programs designed to protect and serve the public. Some of these areas include:
