1. I need to get my food worker's card. How can I do that?
There are two ways to get your card. (1) You may take the course on this website. Print and fill out the worksheet and study it, then come to a testing site to take the test. (2) You may watch the course on DVD, print and fill out the worksheet and study it, then come to a testing site to take the test. The DVD is available for a $5 rental fee at any of our DEHS offices.

2. What is the cost to get my food worker's card?
The fee to take the test is $11 and upon successfully passing the test, an additional fee of $11 will be collected to get two (2) Certified Food Worker cards. The card is valid for three years. You will be required to take a new test every 3 years in order to renew your card and fees to take the test and have your card renewed will apply.

3. How many questions are on the test? What happens if I fail?
There are 50 questions on the test, 30 true/false and 20 multiple choice. A passing score is 40 or more correct answers. If you fail the test and there is sufficient time left during scheduled testing hours, you may retake another version of the test that same day with no additional charge. Re-tests (second attempts) are not allowed after 3:30 PM. If there is insufficient time to retake the test that same day, if you fail the test twice or if you choose to retake the test at a later date, you will be required to pay the $11 test fee again.

4. I'm the owner/manager of a restaurant and I would like to have a food worker's class taught here at my restaurant. Will you come onsite to teach?
San Bernardino County Environmental Health Services (EHS) no longer teaches the food worker class. We will be happy to come onsite and proctor the exam. Your employees will need to take the course either online or by DVD. After they have filled out and studied the worksheet and are ready for testing, please call Joshua Sarmiento at (909) 387-3240 or Terri Bruington at (909) 387-3866 to schedule a testing date. You must have a minimum of 20 employees and a minimum deposit is required 7 days prior to the testing date.

5. I took the food worker's class six months ago and lost my card. How may I get another one?
If you have your old Certified Food Worker card number and DEHS can verify that the card is valid, you may visit one of our DEHS office locations to request a duplicate card. You will not be required to retake the test but the fee of $11 for the two (2) Certified Food Worker cards will be assessed at the time of your request.

6. I'm the manager and I need to take the 8-hour manager's training class. Where are those classes offered?

7. If I have the manager's certification, do I still need the food worker's card?
No, the manager's training and certification supersedes the food worker's card.
