The Forensic
Services Division is comprised of several programs designed to provide
comprehensive mental health services to individuals who are incarcerated,
on probation, or who have been released into the community from a state
hospital on the condition that they receive outpatient mental health
services.

The Conditional Release Program provides intensive
mental health services and community monitoring only to individuals
referred by the Superior Court and/or the Board of Prison Terms. Most of
these individuals have been found to be not guilty by reason of insanity,
incompetent to stand trial, or to be mentally disordered offenders.
Services include a variety of assessments, home visits, collateral
contacts, drug testing, intensive case management, placement, and day
treatment, group therapy and individual psychotherapy. Services are
closely monitored by the State Department of Mental Health and the
Superior Court.

The STAR Program is the treatment component of the
Mental Health Court system of care. Individuals are generally referred
while incarcerated in a county detention facility. Upon acceptance of
terms and conditions of probation requiring mental health treatment, the
individuals are released into the community and closely monitored by the
STAR treatment team. Services include day treatment, intensive case
management, residential placement, drug and alcohol treatment and periodic
court reviews. Services are closely monitored by the Superior Court.

Jail Mental Health Services provides mental
health services to individuals who are incarcerated in the San
Bernardino County Detention Center facilities (West Valley (WVDC), Glen
Helen Rehabilitation Center (GHRC), and Adelanto (ADC)). The program
provides therapeutic services that consists of brief therapy, case
management services, medication support, crisis intervention, and
aftercare referrals for inmates (individuals) who are either awaiting
trial and/or serving their sentences.
