8/25/2008DA Seeks to "Banish" Colton City Crips
In an unprecedented move, San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael A. Ramos filed a civil lawsuit seeking to banish the Colton City Crips from the Arbor Terrace Apartments and the surrounding area. The Colton City Crips is a criminal street gang that first appeared in the City of Colton in the mid-to-late 1980’s. Its oldest members are now in their 40’s. The youngest members are in their teens with even younger children waiting to join the gang. Crimes committed by the gang range from homicide to burglary, with drug dealing as the predominate criminal activity.
The purpose of the injunction is to end the drug dealing and reclaim Arbor Terrace and the surrounding area for the peaceful enjoyment of the residents who live there and for the apartment management who have had to deal with this gang for 20 years. In addition, the injunction will serve to disrupt the gang's activities and make it harder for them to intimidate residents by prohibiting gang members from being in the apartment complex. They are also prohibited from wearing gang clothing and displaying gang tattoos.
District Attorney Ramos commented that, “For over 20 years the people in Colton and surrounding communities have had to suffer the scourge of the Colton City Crips. The Arbor Terrace Apartments serve as a ‘headquarters’ for any number of criminal activities committed by the gang. We look forward to working with the Colton Police Department in ending this gang’s reign of terror.”
