Support a Needy Family During the Holidays
During these tough economic times it’s hard for families to get by, especially during the holidays. Would you like to help make these holidays special and memorable for a needy family? We have provided a “Holiday Basket Wish List” of items that are needed for a holiday meal.
CAPSBC Gala Dinner September 2009

SAN BERNARDINO, CA - Community Action Parternship of San Bernardino County ("CAPSBC") hosted the first annual Community Action Gala Banquet at the Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center at California State University San Bernardino on Thursday evening, September 10, 2009. 280 guests in attendance helped celebrate "Hope in Action." KTLA-TV reporter and anchor Manny Medrano delivered the keynote address, stressing that agencies such as CAPSBC give hope, reflecting on how despite a low-income childhood, with the assistance of others, he and his sisters were able to strive for a better life.
The Gala featured the inaugural Community Action Legacy Awards, a series of awards presented to community members and organizations whose works closely align with the mission and vision of CAPSBC and "the Promise of Community Action." The five honorees were:
Venny H. Newman Humanitarian Award - Kim Carter, Time for Change Foundation
Legislative Advocate Award - California Assemblymember Wilmer Amina Carter, 62nd District
Community Partner Award - Kathy Patoff, Union Bank, Union Bank Foundation
Helping People. Changing Lives Award - Mary McKinney
Spirit of Hope Award - Vicki Terrill
CAPSBC appreciates the support we received from the community and renews its commitment the motto in the logo, "Helping People. Changing Lives."

CAPSBC's Cool Center is Now Open!
Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC), in conjunction with Southern California Edison Company, is operating a Cool Center at its headquarters located at 696 S. Tippecanoe Avenue in San Bernardino. Edison Cool Centers are intended to provide residents (particularly low-income, senior, and disabled residents) in hot climates, a safe air-conditioned facility they can visit during peak hours of the summer months in lieu of running their own cooling devices at home. CAPSBC’s Cool Center opened on June 1, 2009 and will continue through October 15, 2009. The center is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Free bus passes are available for persons needing transportation assistance to come to the Cool Center. While at the center, visitors can enjoy cold water and refreshments; watch DVD’s and videos; and enjoy crafts and games, or reading materials. Resources are provided regarding Edison’s reduced rate programs such as California Alternative Rates for Energy (CARE), Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA), and the Energy Management Assistance (EMA) Program. Information is also provided regarding CAPSBC’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) through the State Department of Community Services and Development, the home weatherization program, and other programs operated by CAPSBC, such as the Family Development Program.
