NAFBM Norton Air Force Base Museum opens to public

March 13, 2013 -- Home to the history and artifacts that tell the story of San Bernardino's involvement in World War II, the Norton Air Force Base Museum opened its doors in 2013. Located at 1601 E. 3rd Street in San Bernardino, the museum is free of admission and serves to honor, preserve and promote the history of the Norton Air Force Base which was active for more than a half century until its closing in 1995. May 18, 2013 -- The first capital improvement project of its kind (featuring a preschool, branch library, public computers, a free digital library, Wi-Fi access and more), the Baker Family Learning Center held its grand opening in 2013. Sitting on land donated by local fast-food pioneer Neal Baker, the 11,000 square foot joint-use facility, located on the corner of Darby Street and Macy Street, is one of the largest investments San Bernardino County has made in the unincorporated area of Muscoy. Upon its opening, Supervisor Gonzales said, "We are on our way to fulfilling Mr. Baker's dream. With this building's completion, Mr. Baker's goodwill lives on, promoting the personal education and development of everyone in the underserved community of Muscoy," Gonzales said. "His generous donation coupled with the creative ingenuity of our county departments made this beautiful project possible for the Fifth District."

Survivor Expo San Bernardino Survivor: SB County's first disaster preparedness event

June 8, 2013 -- Having a plan in the case of an emergency can save your life, which was the focus of San Bernardino County's first disaster preparedness event at Glen Helen Regional Park. The expo featured various safety and survival demonstrations, fishing workshops, opportunity drawings, children's entertainment, and lunch courtesy of San Bernardino Public Employees Association.

Muscoy Community Family Night 5th District and IE Job Corps host Muscoy's first community family night

September 27, 2013 — Supervisor Gonzales visited Muscoy to attend the first ever Muscoy Community Family Night, co-hosted by Inland Empire Job Corps. Muscoy families and residents enjoyed jumpers, face painting, decorating pumpkins, and an evening showing of the movie "Little Rascals." Pictured here with Mary Petit and Cynthia Nunes Robinson of Incredible Edible Community Garden, who donated 400 pumpkins to the event.

Amazon Fulfillment Center Amazon Fulfillment Center grand opening

October 28, 2013 -- Amazon's new Fulfillment Center in San Bernardino marked 2013 as its grand opening. Governor Brown was at the event and spoke along Supervisor Gonzales and other dignitaries on the importance of center's like these in San Bernardino. San Bernardino County's Economic Development Agency helped Amazon develop its employee base, providing job placement assistance and other services. Once it reaches full capacity, the center will provide over 1400 jobs to the region of San Bernardino. For the news story on the grand opening click here.

Bloomington Affordable Housing Community Final plans for Bloomington Affordable Housing Project approved by board

December 18, 2013 -- San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved the development of Bloomington Affordable Housing Community in 2013. Expected to begin construction in fall 2014, the near 14,000 square foot project will feature Bloomington's new branch library, community center, 190 units of affordable housing for families and seniors, classroom facility, and other amenities. 

“This project is more than just housing, it is a long-term investment that will deliver senior services, improve education, provide jobs, and expand local business opportunities for a growing community we serve,” said Supervisor Josie Gonzales.
